Ocean Exploration Above and Below the Sea: History, today, and into the future

Sophie is a U.S. merchant mariner and oceanographer. She's sailed on research vessels, cruise ships, and oil tankers, across the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Sophie has deployed and piloted Slocum gliders, an autonomous underwater vehicle. She also has programmed and built ocean research buoys and surface floats.
